Bitcoin Analysts Turn Bullish Faster Than in 2023 Bull Cycle, CryptoQuant Data Shows

Analyst sentiment across major cryptocurrencies has shifted into strong bullish territory faster and more aggressively than during the early phases of the 2023 bull market, according to a report from CryptoQuant. The analytics firm revealed that its 30-day Analyst Consensus Index for Bitcoin (BTC) surged from -18.3 on July 2 to +49.2, with sentiment moving further ahead of actual spot prices than in prior cycles.

Key Takeaways

  • CryptoQuant's Analyst Consensus Index for BTC surged 67 points over a 103-day span, compared to a 36-point rise during 2022-2023.
  • The proportion of bullish BTC analysts rose from under 40% to 85% (137 of 164 voters).
  • Solana (SOL) recorded the highest sentiment reading at +72, with 91% (31 of 34) of analysts bullish.
  • Ethereum (ETH) consensus jumped from +0.1 to +58.3, with 88% of analysts holding a bullish outlook.

Analysts Outpace Price Recovery

According to CryptoQuant, the Analyst Consensus Index bottomed at -18.3 on July 2 when BTC was trading below $58,000. The metric crossed back above zero on July 27 when the asset reached $63,800, preceding a surge toward $80,000 in late August. As bitcoin momentum indicators turn bullish, viral bullish analysts surged to 85%. Out of 85 analysts who maintained calls both in July and currently, 47 flipped from bearish to bullish, while only 5 shifted in the opposite direction.

During the 2022-2023 cycle, the index climbed 36 points over 103 days while BTC gained roughly 65%. By comparison, the current period saw sentiment jump 67 points despite a more modest 33% price rally from July lows. CryptoQuant's Bull Score Index also leaped from 20 in July to 90 in September, coinciding with reaccumulation by large bitcoin holders.

Altcoins Lead Sentiment Recovery

Unlike the 2022-2023 cycle when altcoins lagged behind BTC, ETH and SOL led the sentiment rebound this time. ETH consensus climbed from +0.1 to +58.3 (88% bullish), while SOL registered the highest consensus reading of all five analyzed assets at +72 (91% bullish).

XRP also executed a sharp reversal after its consensus index dropped to -8.0 on August 20 alongside a multi-year price low of $0.99. Following a rebound past $1.50, its sentiment metric climbed to 36.7%. This shift comes as XRP struggles near $1.33 during broader market consolidation.

Why It Matters

The pronounced front-running of price by analyst sentiment highlights high conviction among market observers, though it also creates potential risks if spot buying fails to maintain pace. Historically, analyst sentiment tracked price action rather than leading it; today, sentiment is shifting deeper and faster than actual market moves. If whale accumulation and institutional capital inflows continue to validate this analyst consensus, top crypto assets could experience extended upside momentum.
