Bitcoin
The first and largest cryptocurrency, launched in 2009.
Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency, introduced in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It runs on its own blockchain secured by mining and has a fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins.
It's often described as "digital gold" — valued mainly as a store of value and the asset that started the whole industry.
