Spot Bitcoin ETFs Rebound With $2.39B Weekly Inflows, Flipping YTD Flows Positive

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds brought in $2.39 billion in net inflows during a pivotal trading week, effectively reversing months of negative performance to push year-to-date flows into positive territory at $925 million. The massive influx brings cumulative net inflows for spot Bitcoin ETFs to $57.55 billion, even as the underlying asset trades more than 40% below its all-time high.

Bitcoin ETFs Overcome Deep Deficits

The week began with momentum when Monday posted nearly $1 billion in net daily inflows. Although daily capital entries gradually slowed as the week progressed—recording $714.75 million on Tuesday, $346.98 million on Wednesday, $190.65 million on Thursday, and $134.47 million on Friday—every single trading session finished in the green.

This performance caps a dramatic turnaround for US spot Bitcoin ETFs. Investors withdrew a staggering $2.43 billion in May and a record $4.51 billion in June, leaving year-to-date flows nearly $5.5 billion in the red by mid-year. Rebound momentum began modestly in July with $172 million in net inflows, before accelerating dramatically with $3.52 billion in August and $2.7 billion so far in September.

Key weekly performance metrics include:

  • Spot Bitcoin ETF Weekly Net Inflows: $2.39 billion
  • Current YTD Net Inflows: $925 million (up from a $5.5 billion deficit)
  • Cumulative Bitcoin ETF Net Inflows: $57.55 billion
  • Spot Ethereum ETF Weekly Net Inflows: $689.88 million
  • Cumulative Ethereum ETF Net Inflows: $13.94 billion

Ethereum Funds Gain Momentum as Asset Tests $2,800

Spot Ethereum ETFs similarly staged a major comeback, ending all five trading sessions in positive territory to accumulate $689.88 million in net weekly inflows. The surge was anchored by Monday's entry of nearly $270 million, erasing losses from the prior week and pushing cumulative Ethereum ETF net inflows to a new multi-month high of $13.94 billion.

During the weekly rally, Ether briefly reached the $2,800 level before pulling back by approximately $100. Market participants have been monitoring technical levels closely while Ethereum bulls target $2,800 resistance amid shifting leverage metrics.

Commentator Crypto Rover pointed out the divergence between ETF institutional demand and spot pricing, noting that cumulative ETF flows are within 10% of their all-time high despite Bitcoin remaining 40% below its price peak. Crypto Rover stated that "institutional money is accumulating like never before and has shortened the bear market dramatically."

Why It Matters

The rapid reversal from a $5.5 billion year-to-date deficit to positive territory demonstrates that institutional demand can decouple from short-term spot price weakness. As institutional vehicles continue accumulating tokens near historical high rates, the supply floor for both Bitcoin and Ethereum strengthens significantly. Market participants should monitor whether sustained ETF inflows trigger a price catch-up rally toward former high levels.
