Robinhood Chain Outpaces Ethereum Revenue With $51M Debut Quarter: ARK Invest

Robinhood Chain generated $51 million in network revenue during its first full quarter of operation, surpassing Ethereum (ETH), which brought in roughly $41 million over the same period, according to ARK Invest's third-quarter 2026 DeFi Quarterly report. The figure highlights a sharp transition in fee capture as Ethereum's network revenue declined 35% quarter-over-quarter.

Revenue Shift and Tokenized Asset Dynamics

Across the networks analyzed by ARK Invest, overall revenue rose 24% from the second quarter to $349 million, marking the first quarterly increase in five quarters despite sitting 47% below levels from a year earlier. ARK credited this uptick to the recovery of Solana (SOL) alongside the debut of Robinhood Chain. Meanwhile, Ethereum saw its market share of tokenized real-world assets drop from approximately 50% in late June to 44%, though it maintained the largest total volume at $16.7 billion. This trend reflects broader movements across the market where institutional venues expand into on-chain tokenized trading.

Decentralized exchange (DEX) trading activity also migrated toward newer platforms. Ethereum's DEX volume dropped 27% from the second quarter, while Base registered a 17% decrease as user activity transitioned to newly launched venues.

Robinhood Chain Performance and Earnings Exposure

Robinhood Chain launched its public mainnet on July 1, five months after deploying its testnet in February. The network settles transactions directly on Ethereum and uses ETH as its native gas token, ensuring Ethereum retains a portion of generated fees. In Q3, Robinhood Chain handled $65 billion in DEX volume, ranking as the fourth-largest network by DEX volume in ARK's dataset. Tokenized equities accounted for $13.7 billion of that activity, placing it behind BNB Chain, which hosted $16.5 billion.

Investors are awaiting Robinhood's third-quarter earnings report on October 27 to examine how management reports the network's financial contribution. In a second-quarter filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the firm noted that "our ability to generate revenue from Robinhood Chain depends significantly on the level of adoption and developer activity on the network."

A similar reporting framework exists at Coinbase, where CFO Alesia Haas noted that Base sequencer fees are booked within other transaction revenue, a line item that dipped 11% to $47.4 million in Q2. ARK Invest also warned that Robinhood Chain's initial revenue pace may not persist: "We do not expect to see Robinhood Chain continue to post such impressive revenue numbers, as a recent increase in gas on Robinhood Chain will eliminate high fees from congestion pricing." Robinhood shares traded at $101.9, down 11.5% in 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Robinhood Chain generated $51 million in Q3 revenue, exceeding Ethereum's $41 million.
  • Ethereum network revenue fell 35% quarter-over-quarter as its RWA market share fell from 50% to 44%.
  • $65 billion in DEX volume was processed by Robinhood Chain, including $13.7 billion in tokenized equities.

Why It Matters

The revenue shift between Ethereum and Robinhood Chain underscores how Layer-2 networks capture front-end fee revenue while delegating base settlement to Ethereum. Although Ethereum still benefits through ETH gas usage, the migration of retail volume and tokenized equity trading to corporate chains poses long-term questions regarding L1 fee retention. How public companies disclose Layer-2 sequencing revenue will establish critical benchmarks for institutional crypto integration.
