Strive and Strategy Buy 1,490 Bitcoin for $123M as Market Rebounds

Corporate treasury buyers Strive and Strategy announced combined acquisitions of 1,490 BTC on Monday, October 19, capitalizing on market weakness as Bitcoin recovered above $82,000.

Strive and Strategy Expand Balance Sheet Holdings

Asset management firm Strive, led by CEO Matt Cole, acquired 1,223 BTC, pushing its total treasury holdings to 36,818 BTC. While Strive has not disclosed the purchase price for the latest batch, the coins were valued at approximately $101 million based on Bitcoin's market price of $82,500 early Monday. Cole noted that proceeds from the firm's SATS IPO settle on Tuesday, with plans to maintain its 18-month dividend reserve following the expiration of traditional warrants.

Simultaneously, Michael Saylor's Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) purchased 267 BTC for $22.1 million between October 12 and 18, paying an average price of $82,900 per coin. The acquisition expanded Strategy's total holdings to 848,517 BTC, funded largely through $22 million in MSTR equity sales. Alongside the crypto purchase, Strategy repurchased 1.94 million STRC preferred shares for $193.1 million, expanding its total repurchase authorization to $3 billion with $1.16 billion remaining, building on prior buybacks detailed when Michael Saylor revealed Strategy spent $1.5B buying back STRC preferred stock.

Market Recovery and Key Resistance Levels

The corporate accumulation coincided with a broader price rebound after Bitcoin dipped below $80,000 on October 15 following unexpected US inflation data. Easing oil prices and lower US Treasury yields helped lift Bitcoin back above $82,000, aligning with market movements seen when Bitcoin rebounded to $82,500. Despite corporate accumulation, broader institutional participation remains cautious after US spot Bitcoin ETFs reported $228 million in net outflows last week. Traders are closely watching Wednesday's US crude oil inventory report and the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting on October 27–28, with $80,000 standing as key support and $84,000–$85,000 serving as the primary resistance target.

  • Strive acquired 1,223 BTC, expanding reserves to 36,818 BTC.
  • Strategy bought 267 BTC for $22.1M, bringing total holdings to 848,517 BTC.
  • Strategy spent $193.1M repurchasing 1.94 million STRC preferred shares.
  • US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced $228 million in weekly net outflows.

Why It Matters

Persistent corporate accumulation highlights strong balance-sheet conviction among dedicated treasury buyers, providing a structural counterweight to spot market selling pressure. Even as institutional ETF flows registered $228 million in net redemptions, direct balance-sheet expansion by Strive and Strategy signals long-term confidence in Bitcoin as a primary reserve asset. Market participants will monitor whether $80,000 holds as technical support ahead of macro policy catalysts later this month.
