Real Vision CEO Raoul Pal has declared Ethereum (ETH) wildly undervalued, arguing that current market pricing fails to account for the blockchain's foundational role in digital finance. While Pal continues to hold Bitcoin (BTC), Solana (SOL), Sui, and Zcash, he noted that an Ethereum outage would instantly disrupt 70% to 76% of stablecoins and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.
- Massive Outage Impact: An Ethereum failure would erase between $1 trillion and $1.5 trillion across DeFi, stablecoins, Layer-2 networks, real-world assets, and digital art.
- Disciplined Dip Buying: Pal buys when an asset drops two standard deviations below its long-term trendline, an approach he has used for two years.
- Aggressive Long-Term Targets: Projects a $10 trillion crypto market cap within 18 to 24 months, scaling to $100 trillion by 2035.
The Valuation Case for Ethereum
Pal illustrated Ethereum's core utility through a hypothetical stress test: if the network went offline tomorrow, the collapse would wipe out 70% to 76% of all stablecoins alongside an equivalent share of the DeFi ecosystem. Furthermore, most real-world asset projects, the digital art market, and every Layer-2 scaling solution built on top would experience severe damage. In total, Pal calculates the financial fallout would destroy $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion in value.
Despite this systemic dependency, Pal believes the market has severely mispriced ETH. Speaking on a recent podcast, Pal stated, "Now there is demand for Bitcoin as a collateral asset. We know that. But the convexity of, you know, something like ETH, I don’t know what the size of ETH is now, what its market cap is, but it’s wildly undervalued versus, you know, what is coming." His buying framework relies on acquiring assets when they fall two standard deviations below their long-term trend lines—a strategy executed in 2022 when he purchased ETH and SOL near market bottoms. He also holds Sui, highlighting its economic density, and Zcash as privacy demand expands, even while Ethereum defends key support levels.
Macro Liquidity and the $100 Trillion Horizon
Addressing broader market trends, Pal explained that crypto and technology assets have lagged global money-supply growth because institutional capital diverted heavily into AI infrastructure. However, incoming interest rate cuts and renewed corporate spending are expected to redirect liquidity back toward digital assets. Against traditional benchmarks like gold and the Nasdaq, crypto continues to look discounted.
At the Sui Base Camp event in Singapore, Pal predicted the total crypto market cap would reach $10 trillion within 18 to 24 months, with stablecoin supply scaling to $1 trillion over the next three to four years. By 2035, he anticipates total market capitalization could top $100 trillion, accelerated by an "economic singularity" driven by AI agents by 2030. Pal noted that Bitcoin currently trades below its long-term trend line, mirroring extended horizon forecasts seen in long-term Bitcoin cycle models.
Why It Matters
Pal's analysis highlights a structural disconnect between network utility and token pricing, framing Ethereum as an indispensable financial utility rather than a speculative asset. If his projections on stablecoin expansion to $1 trillion and AI agent integration prove accurate, layer-1 blockchains will capture significant monetary velocity over the next four years. For investors, this perspective emphasizes measuring systemic economic activity across decentralised infrastructure over short-term price movements.
