Gate Posts $396B September Derivatives Volume in Q3 Growth Report

Digital asset trading platform Gate released its Q3 2026 report, revealing a $396 billion derivatives trading volume in September—a 38.2% month-over-month increase that placed the platform among the top three global centralized derivatives exchanges with a 10.1% market share.

Trading Volumes and TradFi Product Matrix

According to CoinDesk data cited in the report, Gate recorded $48.8 billion in September spot trading volume, representing a 21.9% month-over-month gain. Its Real World Asset (RWA) perpetuals market share reached 9.1%, ranking third globally. Quarterly ETF trading volume approached 60 billion USDT, overall options trading volume grew 23.8% quarter-over-quarter, and new trading users grew by 52.1%.

In traditional finance (TradFi) offerings, Gate expanded its global stock and ETF selection to over 12,800 instruments across the U.S., Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan, alongside support for 5,400+ digital assets. August trading volume for tokenized equity under gStocks surpassed 2.5 billion USDT, continuing market momentum where exchanges like LBank expanded TradFi trading access. During Q3, Gate also upgraded its CFD multi-asset trading, Pre-IPOs, and IPO Access services while introducing U.S. Stock Options, Stock Copy Trading, and Stock Event Contracts.

Wealth Management, Institutional Reach, and Compliance

The exchange saw notable expansion across its asset management services during Q3:

  • Simple Earn: Total AUM surpassed $1.85 billion, reflecting a 24% QoQ increase.
  • Staking: Peak AUM exceeded $1.27 billion, marking a 57%+ growth from the end of Q2.
  • Idle Earn: Automated yield holdings for USDT, USDC, and USD1 passed $300 million.
  • Launchpool & CandyDrop: Gate Launchpool hosted 17 projects (with the FOLD project reaching an APR over 580% at close), while CandyDrop ran 13 campaigns distributing approximately $2 million in rewards.

For institutional services, Gate CrossEx recorded a 63% quarterly trading volume increase, a 902% surge in retained assets, and a 315% growth in active trading users. Furthermore, Gate updated its infrastructure across Perp DEX, Gate Layer, Gate Card, and Gate.AI.

According to October data, Gate held $8.688 billion in total reserve assets with a reserve ratio of 118.49%, building on its history as one of the first platforms to implement 100% Proof of Reserves. Cumulative token burns reached approximately 192 million GT, reducing the initial total supply by 63.98%. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Han, the platform now serves over 62 million users across 81 regulated jurisdictions under legal frameworks such as Europe's MiCA—where institutional demand is driving broader industry expansion like The Vault opening an engineering hub in Tbilisi—and Dubai's VARA.

Why It Matters

Gate's Q3 performance underscores how major centralized exchanges are aggressively bridging digital assets with traditional equity markets. By pairing high-volume derivatives with tokenized equities and structured yield products, platforms are expanding their addressable market beyond crypto-native retail traders to institutional investors. As global regulations like MiCA enforce stricter compliance standards, platforms that maintain verified reserve ratios while diversifying into TradFi instruments are best positioned to defend market share.
