Zcash Holds Above $1,600 as Weekly Shielded Transactions Reach Four-Year High

Zcash (ZEC) traded around $1,619 on Wednesday following a 7.5% increase during the session and a 10% gain in the previous period, bolstered by record privacy transaction volumes and expanding institutional inflows. The cryptocurrency is approaching critical overhead channel resistance near $1,700 as market participation broadens.

  • ZEC Price: Trading near $1,619, eyeing potential price discovery above $1,700 toward $2,000.
  • Shielded Volume: Recorded 62,379 shielded transactions last week, the highest total in four years.
  • Ironwood Adoption: The Ironwood pool accounted for 55,549 transactions, or 89% of weekly shielded activity.
  • Institutional Inflows: Grayscale's ZEC product logged $32.81 million in single-day inflows on Tuesday.

Shielded Activity and Institutional Inflows Surge

Data from Blockworks reveals that Zcash processed 62,379 shielded transactions last week, marking the highest weekly transaction level since 2022. The network's newer Ironwood pool generated 55,549 of these private transfers, representing approximately 89% of the total volume. By utilizing cryptographic zero-knowledge proofs, shielded transfers verify transaction validity without exposing wallet addresses or transfer amounts on public ledgers.

Institutional demand has similarly expanded alongside on-chain metrics. SoSoValue data indicates that Grayscale's ZEC-focused investment vehicle absorbed $32.81 million in net inflows on Tuesday, elevating its total assets under management to approximately $979.48 million. European institutional access has also widened following 21Shares' launch of a ZEC-dedicated exchange-traded product on Euronext. This institutional expansion coincides with a period where altcoins experience broad rally across spot markets.

Technical Setup Targets $2,000 Threshold

On the four-hour chart, ZEC remains positioned above key short-term moving averages. The 50-period exponential moving average (EMA) rests at $1,424, the 100-period EMA stands at $1,295, and the 200-period EMA sits at $1,108. This bullish alignment supports the current market structure, which contrasts sharply with historical volatility seen in prior cycles such as when Zcash faced pullback risk.

ZEC is testing the upper boundary of a bullish channel formed by connecting the August 23 and September 19 highs near $1,700, alongside support drawn from the September 2 and September 16 lows. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 63, reflecting constructive upside momentum without reaching overbought territory above 70, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator remains positive above its signal line. A verified breakout past $1,700 opens a path toward the psychological $2,000 target, representing a 25% move from current levels, whereas failure at resistance leaves primary support at $1,595 and secondary support around $1,422–$1,424.

Why It Matters

The simultaneous rise in Ironwood pool utilization and regulated fund inflows suggests Zcash's current valuation is being driven by measurable network adoption rather than purely speculative derivatives positioning. If ZEC breaks above the $1,700 threshold with volume, supply absorption by European ETPs and Grayscale could constrain available exchange liquidity. Traders should monitor whether weekly shielded transaction counts remain near 60,000 over coming reporting periods to verify long-term usage trends.
