US Bitcoin ETFs Snap 9-Day Win Streak With $148.7M Outflow, Remaining $5B From Record

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $148.7 million in net withdrawals on Sept. 30, snapping a nine-day streak of positive inflows that generated approximately $3.08 billion. Despite the late-month decline, the products remain roughly $5 billion away from surpassing their all-time cumulative inflow record of $62.8 billion.

Fidelity Leads Outflows as Win Streak Ends

According to data from Farside Investors, the Sept. 30 reversal was primarily driven by Fidelity’s FBTC, which saw $125.6 million in net outflows. Bitwise’s BITB and BlackRock’s IBIT recorded redemptions of $13.6 million and $9.5 million, respectively, while the remaining nine listed spot Bitcoin funds registered zero net flows.

The single-day drop interrupted an otherwise strong month for institutional digital asset products. September ended with total net inflows of about $2.65 billion, making it the second-strongest month of 2026 behind August's $3.52 billion total. This inflow push helped lift 2026 net flows to roughly $930 million, overcoming an extended period underwater earlier in the year as Bitcoin capped its Q3 performance.

Cumulative Inflows Rebound Near Peak

Data from Bloomberg Intelligence reveals that cumulative flows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs originally peaked at $62.8 billion on Oct. 10, 2025. A subsequent 11-month period of sustained redemptions caused cumulative flows to draw down by $12 billion, bottoming out near $50.9 billion on July 13.

Subsequent buying brought lifetime cumulative flows back to approximately $57.7 billion by late September, leaving the ETF suite $5 billion shy of a new record peak. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted that the rebound was remarkable given that Bitcoin was contending with rising sovereign bond yields and lingering negative sentiment. Early on Oct. 1, Bitcoin traded near $83,800.

Key Takeaways

  • Daily Reversal: Spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $148.7 million in net outflows on Sept. 30, ending a nine-day streak of $3.08 billion in gains.
  • Issuer Distribution: Fidelity's FBTC accounted for $125.6 million of the total withdrawals, while nine other funds saw zero activity.
  • Monthly Strengths: September posted $2.65 billion in net positive flows, lifting 2026 cumulative net inflows to $930 million.
  • Distance to Record: Total lifetime ETF inflows stand at $57.7 billion, putting the sector $5 billion below its Oct. 10, 2025 high of $62.8 billion.

Why It Matters

The single-day outflow concentrated in Fidelity's FBTC represents a minor pause rather than a confirmed trend shift following $3.08 billion in sustained buying. How institutional flows respond in upcoming sessions will reveal whether institutional buyers are taking profits near $83,800 or preparing for another push toward record ETF accumulation. Reaching the $62.8 billion mark would officially erase an 11-month $12 billion drawdown, cementing sustained institutional adoption despite macro headwinds.
