Streamex Secures $1M Institutional Allocation for Gold-Backed GLDY Strategy

Nasdaq-listed Streamex Corp. has secured an initial $1 million institutional allocation from Metalayer Capital for a relative-value investment strategy using Streamex's yield-bearing gold token, GLDY. The allocation marks a key step in expanding commodity tokenization beyond individual accredited investors into institutional finance.

Delta-Neutral Strategy and Operational Mechanics

The strategy is executed by Metalayer Capital's Aureon Relative Value Fund. It pairs a long position in GLDY with an offsetting short position in gold-linked perpetual futures. This delta-neutral setup renders the portfolio largely indifferent to gold price fluctuations, focusing instead on capturing the targeted 3.5% annual yield generated through Streamex's gold-leasing program.

Money deployed into the long position directly increases GLDY's assets under management, expanding the base on which Streamex earns fees. In addition to managing the trade, Metalayer acts as a liquidity provider for GLDY across select trading venues, holding direct minting and redemption capabilities with the issuer. Streamex Co-Founder and Chief Executive Henry McPhie noted that securing institutional allocations was at the top of the company's 90-day objectives outlined in August, calling it a fundamentally different growth channel than individual sales.

Monthly Distributions and Reserve Verification

Offered strictly to eligible investors under exemptions from securities registration, GLDY has now delivered six consecutive monthly distributions, with the most recent payout occurring in September. To provide transparency, Streamex maintains public verification of its gold reserves using a Chainlink proof-of-reserves feed.

While the initial $1 million commitment is final and follow-on investments are anticipated, further purchases remain entirely at the discretion of the institutional investor. As financial institutions increasingly test real-world asset solutions—similar to how IBM linked 17 banks for tokenized deposit pilots and asset managers expanded tokenized venture funds on Ethereum—Streamex aims to capitalize on institutional appetite for tokenized settlement products.

Key Takeaways

  • Initial Capital: Metalayer Capital committed $1 million to an institutional strategy utilizing Streamex's GLDY token.
  • Yield Target: The delta-neutral trade aims to capture GLDY's targeted 3.5% annual yield via gold-leasing, hedging spot price risk with perpetual futures.
  • Proof of Reserves: Streamex has completed six consecutive monthly distributions through September, backed by a Chainlink proof-of-reserves feed.

Why It Matters

This allocation demonstrates a practical transition for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) from retail speculation to institutional yield strategies. By structuring a delta-neutral trade, systematic managers like Metalayer can isolate fixed-income style yields from underlying commodity volatility. If follow-on capital materializes, it could validate tokenized gold as a scalable collateral and yield asset within institutional balance sheets.
