Bitcoin Struggles Near $81.5K Following Inflation Data as Altcoins Face Heavy Losses

Bitcoin (BTC) is consolidating near $81,500 following a volatile week in which macroeconomic friction and higher-than-expected US inflation data dragged the digital asset to a monthly low below $80,000.

Bitcoin Fluctuates Below $82K After Hot Inflation Reports

Early in the week, Bitcoin surged to $84,000 on Monday morning before quickly pulling back to $81,000. The asset stabilized until September Consumer Price Index (CPI) data revealed inflation came in higher than expected, triggering an immediate drop under $82,000. Subsequent Producer Price Index (PPI) figures confirmed lingering inflationary pressure, which combined with sharp sell-offs in Asian equity benchmarks like the KOSPI and Nikkei to drive BTC down.

The compounding macro factors pushed Bitcoin below $80,000 for the first time in a month before Bitcoin hit a monthly low amid inflation data. A Friday recovery attempt toward $83,000 was met with another rejection, leaving Bitcoin struggling around $81,500. Its market capitalization stands at $1.630 trillion on CoinMarketCap, while Bitcoin dominance over altcoins has dipped below 60%.

Altcoins Bleed Led by Double-Digit Drops in ZRO, STRK, and PYTH

Altcoins experienced widespread selling pressure across major market segments:

  • Ethereum (ETH) dropped 1% to $2,430, while BNB slipped 1% to $723.
  • XRP slid 2.4% to $1.31, while assets like SOL, HYPE, DOGE, LINK, XMR, and ADA recorded similar minor losses.
  • ZEC fell 5.2% after facing rejection at $1,200, accompanied by pullbacks in RAIN (-7.4%) and TAO (-5.5%).
  • Double-digit price declines were led by ZRO, STRK, and PYTH, whereas BTW, TIA, and LIT defied the broader trend with gains.

The overall cryptocurrency market capitalization decreased by 1% over the past 24 hours to $2.740 trillion. Meanwhile, Ethereum continues defending key support despite ongoing market volatility.

Why It Matters

Bitcoin's inability to hold gains above $83,000 signals that sticky inflation and international equity weakness continue to restrict upside momentum. Furthermore, Bitcoin's market dominance dropping below 60% indicates capital is not simply fleeing into BTC for safety, leaving mid-cap and high-beta altcoins highly exposed to downside risk. Market participants will likely focus on whether $80,000 can serve as a dependable structural support level during upcoming macroeconomic announcements.
