Ethereum Exchange Outflows Hit 4-Month High of 169,770 ETH as Spot ETFs Bleed $1.18 Billion

Ethereum (ETH) recorded its largest single-day net exchange outflow in over four months as 169,770 ETH exited centralized exchanges, repeating a supply dynamic last observed ahead of a notable price rebound earlier this year. Despite this supply contraction on trading platforms, institutional selling pressure and weak U.S. demand continue to prevent a sustained market recovery.

Exchange Supply Dwindles as ETF Capital Departs

Data from analytics platform Santiment shows that the 169,770 ETH net outflow marks the highest single-day reduction since June 5, when 223,800 ETH left exchanges after price dropped to its lowest point since April 2025. While that historical event marked a local bottom followed by a swift price recovery, persistent institutional redemptions are dampening immediate buyer enthusiasm.

According to SoSoValue, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs registered net redemptions on 14 out of 16 trading days in October, accumulating $1.18 billion in net outflows through October 22. These withdrawals pulled total net assets down to $14.57 billion, reaching their lowest level since August 21. American retail and institutional interest also remains muted, with CryptoQuant’s Coinbase Premium Index dropping to -0.134 in late October—indicating that ETH has traded lower on Coinbase than on Binance. Liquid capital across major exchanges has thinned concurrently, as stablecoin reserves have continually drained since April.

Key Technical Levels and Market Targets

Trading at $2,377.29 following a 1.03% decline over 24 hours, ETH sits slightly below the critical $2,400 pivot highlighted by Santiment. Key developments for traders to monitor include:

  • Exchange Net Outflow: 169,770 ETH left exchanges in a single day, the largest movement in over four months.
  • U.S. Spot ETF Redemptions: Capital flight reached $1.18 billion through October 22.
  • Price Pivot Lines: Santiment identifies $2,400 as immediate pivot, $2,500 as bottom confirmation, and $2,330 as critical support.

Analyst Ted Pillows noted that ETH recently tested the $2,350–$2,360 support range, stating that overall momentum remains weak until the token "reclaims $2,550." Looking lower, analyst Michaël van de Poppe highlighted potential buying opportunities below support, noting: "I'd be max bidding everything beneath $2,300 as then I think that we'll reverse quite quickly." Meanwhile, analyst Ash Crypto identified a bullish inverse head and shoulders pattern building on the weekly timeframe.

This technical backdrop emerges as Ethereum trades near key support zones while broader network metrics, including Ethereum staking queue shifts, reflect shifting investor allocations.

Why It Matters

The divergence between shrinking exchange liquidity and aggressive ETF selling presents a classic supply-demand friction point for Ethereum. While diminishing exchange inventory typically mitigates immediate sell pressure, structural upside remains capped without sustained spot demand from U.S. institutional desks. If macro conditions keep exchange stablecoin reserves suppressed, Ethereum risks retesting sub-$2,300 liquidity pools to establish a lasting price floor.
