Cardano DRep Chris O Resigns Governance Role to Focus on Sui Network

Prominent Cardano advocate Chris O (@TheOCcryptobro) announced on October 22, 2026, that he is stepping down as a Delegated Representative (DRep), pointing to Sui network's faster development and adoption as the primary reason.

High-Profile Departure Highlights Growing Governance Frustration

In a public statement on X, Chris O explained that while he still holds Cardano (ADA) tokens and remains a believer, ADA is no longer his largest cryptocurrency position. He formally asked delegators to move their voting power, noting that votes delegated to his position will no longer count toward governance decisions. Criticizing network progress, he stated that the Cardano Foundation (@Cardano_CF) and other affiliated entities "have not kept up" with competing networks, describing the technical contrast with Sui as "not even close."

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson responded directly to the post, writing, "Thanks for your time here, and it was great to get to know you also." The departure comes after prolonged price stagnation across layer-1 assets, with Cardano risking deeper loss as ADA dropped below support earlier in the cycle.

Ecosystem Friction and Competing Networks

Chris O represents the second high-profile advocate to pivot toward Sui within the past year. In June, analyst Dan Gambardello shifted a portion of his holdings from ADA to SUI, citing a lack of support for the Cardano community. That same month, ADA fell below $0.20 for the first time since 2021, while ecosystem projects including TapTools and Hosky wound down operations.

The Cardano Foundation has faced several organizational setbacks over recent months:

  • Treasury Proposal Rejected: In June, the community voted down a 7.8 million ADA treasury proposal, leading to the cancellation of the Cardano Summit in Singapore.
  • Executive Departure: Foundation Chief Technology Officer Giorgio Zinetti left the organization at the end of August.
  • Technical Pressure: Concerns persist despite market moves where ADA previously saw brief technical rebounds.

Why It Matters

This departure highlights how layer-1 blockchain competition is shifting from long-term roadmaps to immediate execution and developer traction. While individual advocacy shifts do not automatically trigger capital flight across an entire network, recurring exits among prominent community voices create reputational friction during governance transitions. As Cardano prepares for its planned Leios scaling upgrade, retaining active governance participation and builder alignment will be critical to sustaining ecosystem momentum.
