Cardano Risks Deeper Loss as ADA Drops Below $0.220 Support

Cardano (ADA) remained under sustained selling pressure on Thursday, trading below the key $0.220 level after buyers failed to clear resistance at its 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA). The rejection leaves ADA positioned beneath both its 50-day and 200-day EMAs, keeping the asset in a tight technical corrective phase as price hovers just above immediate support at the 100-day EMA near $0.220.

Derivatives Positioning Signals Bearish Bias

Data from CoinGlass indicates growing caution among market participants, with Cardano's long-to-short ratio reaching 0.96 on Thursday (and standing at 0.79 across select metrics), nearing its lowest point in more than a month. Derivatives funding rates reinforced this bearish outlook after turning negative on Wednesday and holding at -0.0025% on Thursday, requiring short position holders to pay longs.

Market analysis from CryptoQuant highlighted broader sell-side dominance across both spot and futures markets. The data identified large whale orders alongside elevated activity in futures trading, reflecting sustained supply that buyers have yet to absorb. This weakness aligns with prior market structures where Cardano gained to $0.226 before facing analyst warnings of downside targets near $0.170.

Momentum Indicators and Key Price Targets

Daily technical indicators continue to reflect weak momentum for ADA. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains trapped in the low-40s below the neutral 50 line, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains negative.

  • Immediate Support: The 100-day EMA around $0.220 serves as the primary line of defense. A breakdown below this level brings $0.210 into focus, followed by deeper structural support near $0.170.
  • Overhead Resistance: Initial recovery barriers begin at the 50-day EMA around $0.228–$0.230, followed by horizontal resistance at $0.236 and the 200-day EMA at $0.240. Secondary upside targets sit at $0.250 and $0.300.

Why It Matters

Cardano's struggle below $0.220 points to a lack of spot demand capable of overriding derivative hedge pressure. With funding rates dipping negative and sell-side volume leading both derivatives and spot venues, traders are demanding higher risk premiums before stepping in. Until ADA can reclaim its 200-day EMA near $0.240, the path of least resistance favors further tests of lower support zones.
