As total cryptocurrency market capitalization slipped 0.30% entering early October, select altcoins defied the broader downturn with sharp double-digit surges. According to Santiment data, Pump.fun (PUMP), Aave (AAVE), Worldcoin (WLD), and Sky (SKY) recorded strong weekly rallies, driven by supply cutbacks, protocol expansion, and institutional adoption.
- Aave (AAVE) gained 20% over seven days after protocol user deposits surpassed $1 billion.
- Pump.fun (PUMP) rallied 30% as daily protocol buybacks exceeded $1 million.
- Sky (SKY) climbed 14% following a $100 million sUSDS treasury allocation by Galaxy Digital.
- Quant (QNT) dropped 7% on Friday to $252.55, though it remains up 152% across seven days.
Protocol Milestones and Revenue Buybacks Fuel Surge
Aave (AAVE) posted a 20% weekly increase, including a 7% jump on Friday, after the protocol crossed the $1 billion threshold in user deposits. Growth was further bolstered by the September launch of V4 on Arc and Base, where an Equities Hub allows eligible non-US users to borrow USDC against 7 Coinbase-tokenized US stocks.
Meanwhile, Pump.fun (PUMP) surged 30% in a week as the platform directed roughly half of its net protocol revenue toward PUMP token buybacks and burns. Daily repurchases topped $1 million multiple times in late September. Together with Hyperliquid, Pump.fun accounted for nearly 90% of the record $638 million in token buybacks documented in August.
Institutional Backing and Profit-Taking Divergence
Sky (SKY) advanced 14% over the week on growing institutional traction. Last month, Galaxy Digital added $100 million of sUSDS—Sky's yield-bearing savings token—to its treasury, approved sUSDS as collateral across its institutional trading business, and purchased an undisclosed amount of SKY. The rally comes as tokens like Bitway and Sky approach elevated technical levels.
Worldcoin (WLD) also added 15% without a specific catalyst identified by analytics platform Santiment. In contrast, Quant (QNT) faced heavy selling after a massive run-up. QNT fell 7% on Friday due to profit-taking, extending a drop of over 32% from its late September peak, though it remains up 152% over seven days at $252.55. The broader market witnessed volatility after Bitcoin faced resistance at $87,200, weighing on sentiment for ETH and XRP.
Why It Matters
The split between general market stagnation and double-digit altcoin gains highlights a transition toward fundamental-driven asset selection. Direct revenue sharing, such as Pump.fun's systematic buybacks and Aave's real-world asset collateralization, is proving capable of sustaining price action independent of Bitcoin's direction. Furthermore, Galaxy Digital's $100 million commitment to sUSDS indicates that institutional balance sheets are actively seeking yield opportunities in decentralized finance protocols despite broader macroeconomic uncertainty.
