Validator

A participant that checks and confirms transactions on a proof-of-stake chain.

A validator is a participant in a proof-of-stake network that proposes and verifies new blocks. To take part, a validator locks up (stakes) coins as a security deposit.

Validators that follow the rules earn rewards; those that cheat can lose part of their stake. This incentive keeps the network honest.
