Consensus

How a decentralized network agrees on which transactions are valid.

Consensus is the process by which a blockchain's participants agree on a single, shared version of the truth — without a central referee. The two most common mechanisms are proof-of-work (mining) and proof-of-stake (staking).

Good consensus design is what keeps a network secure and prevents anyone from spending the same coins twice.
