XRP has fallen 4.81% over the past week to $1.30 and is down 12.5% since October 1 as three distinct bearish indicators signal a retreat among major buyers.
Whale Activity and Exchange Deposits Flash Red
According to on-chain analyst Darkfost, 90-day average whale outflows on Binance collapsed to $49.7 million, marking a 5-year low compared to the $3.5 billion peak recorded in February 2025. Darkfost noted that whales accumulated heavily during earlier market downturns in 2022 and 2023, but are likely waiting for lower price points before stepping back in.
Simultaneously, data from Arab Chain reveals that crypto exchanges received 6.05 billion XRP over the past 30 days—a 7-month high. Binance absorbed 2.46 billion XRP, accounting for roughly 40% of those total deposits. This influx builds upon broader market trends where XRP exchange reserves hit record levels, expanding the volume of tokens available for spot selling.
Institutional ETF Inflows Freeze Up
Institutional demand has also cooled significantly. US spot XRP exchange-traded funds recorded a net weekly outflow of $1.84 million for the period ending October 16, according to SoSoValue, snapping a 13-week streak of consecutive inflows.
- Zero Net Flows: Four of the last seven trading sessions generated zero net ETF flows.
- October Slowdown: Month-to-date ETF inflows total just $10.25 million, representing a steep decline from $121.4 million in September.
- Asset Contraction: Total net assets in XRP ETFs dropped to $1.48 billion from a peak of $1.77 billion on September 25.
Historical returns from CryptoRank show XRP closed lower in 8 of its 13 Octobers. While August and September saw gains of 30% and 7.95% respectively, XRP faces historical seasonal headwind with a median November return of minus 10%. Previous market evaluations also signaled caution when XRP faced critical technical thresholds across major exchanges.
Why It Matters
The simultaneous drop in whale accumulation, spike in exchange deposits, and pause in ETF buying creates a challenging liquidity landscape for XRP. Without strong institutional inflows to absorb tokens landing on exchanges, price movement depends heavily on whether retail support holds. Investors should monitor whether key price floors trigger renewed whale accumulation or if market participants wait for further downside before committing capital.
