XRP and DOGE Enter Undervalued MVRV Zones as Macro Headwinds Weigh on Crypto

On-chain analytics firm Santiment reveals that Dogecoin (DOGE) and XRP have entered historically low-risk buying zones, with 365-day Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratios falling to 0.74 and 0.92, respectively.

On-Chain Data Signals Selling Exhaustion for XRP and DOGE

The 365-day MVRV metric tracks whether holders over the past year are sitting on unrealized profits or losses. A reading of 0.74 for DOGE indicates substantial unrealized losses for annual buyers, while XRP at 0.92 similarly highlights depressed valuations. In contrast, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Chainlink display 365-day MVRV values ranging between 0.97 and 1.04, putting average holders close to the breakeven mark.

Key metrics from the latest market data include:

  • Dogecoin 365-day MVRV: 0.74, signaling historical undervaluation.
  • XRP 365-day MVRV: 0.92, showing holders remain in negative territory.
  • BTC, ETH, and LINK MVRV: 0.97 to 1.04, reflecting neutral holder profitability.
  • Philadelphia Semiconductor Index: Down approximately 14% since October 6.

Geopolitical Headwinds and Federal Reserve Policy Pressure

Despite positive price ticks, broader market sentiment remains constrained by macroeconomic forces. Analysis from exchange platform Bitunix points to ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran that threaten oil supplies ahead of the US midterm elections on November 3. Spiking energy costs could sustain inflation, limiting the Federal Reserve's ability to ease monetary policy.

Although economists anticipate interest rates will hold at 3.75%-4.00% at the October meeting, all 100 respondents in a Reuters poll project another rate hike in December. Meanwhile, equity markets reflect mixed conditions; while the S&P 500 index trades near record highs, semiconductor stocks have pulled back sharply. Bitunix warned that if energy costs, rate expectations, and AI investment risks deteriorate together, markets may reprice growth expectations, financing costs, and capital allocation, raising risk-asset volatility.

Why It Matters

Low MVRV ratios historically precede strong cyclical bottoms for major altcoins as selling pressure dissipates. However, on-chain valuation signals alone cannot overcome severe macroeconomic tightening or geopolitical energy shocks. Investors should watch whether broader liquidity constraints overshadow technical oversold indicators in the near term.
