Tokenized stocks captured an average of 11% of decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume in September, rapidly closing the gap on meme coins, according to new research from Binance Research. Meme coins accounted for an average 17% share during the same month, leaving a 6 percentage point difference between the two asset classes.
Rapid Volume Growth From Near Zero
Tokenized equities maintained close to a 0% DEX market share throughout 2025 and through most of the first half of 2026. However, trading activity climbed significantly in the summer, with tokenized stock share briefly surpassing meme coins in late July before establishing the 11% September average.
In contrast, meme coin market share demonstrated significant volatility throughout 2025, swinging between 6% and 53% before cooling to 17% in September. The shift toward real-world assets comes as market participants and executives weigh SEC relief for tokenized U.S. stock trading.
Market Cap Surpasses $3 Billion
The increase in trading share coincided with broad expansion in market value. The tokenized stock sector crossed $3 billion in total market capitalization during the fourth week of September, according to RWA.xyz data cited in the report. This expansion makes tokenized stocks the fastest-growing real-world asset (RWA) category of 2026.
As of mid-September, BNB Chain hosted approximately $1 billion, representing 34% of the total tokenized stock market. Total onchain transfer volume—including DEX trades—grew from $6 billion in the first quarter to more than $100 billion in the third quarter. Concurrently, decentralized finance protocols have seen rising tokenized stock deposits across various DeFi protocols.

- Market Capitalization: Crossed $3 billion in late September, marking it as 2026's fastest-growing RWA sector.

- BNB Chain Share: Accounted for $1 billion or 34% of tokenized stock market cap as of mid-September.
Why It Matters
According to Binance Research, "The on-chain economy is evolving from its roots in crypto-native assets towards a broader financial network, where crypto and traditional assets trade side by side on shared, always-on rails."
This structural evolution indicates that decentralized exchange liquidity is diversifying away from purely speculative tokens toward institutional financial instruments. If tokenized equities sustain double-digit DEX volume shares in upcoming quarters, decentralized exchanges will increasingly serve as primary 24/7 clearing venues for traditional equities alongside crypto-native assets.
