Shiba Inu X Follow Sparks 971% Surge for New WOOF Meme Coin Token

The official Shiba Inu account on X sparked a speculative rally on Sept. 28 after following WOOF, a newly launched Ethereum meme coin with fewer than 700 followers, sending the token's WOOF/SHIB pair up 971% in 24 hours.

Social Media Exposure Ignites WOOF Trading

The WOOF project registered its X profile earlier this month, following only a single account itself. Despite its minimal footprint, market interest surged after Shiba Inu's account added WOOF to its follow list. According to DEX Screener data, WOOF is an ERC-20 token featuring a fixed total supply of 1 billion units.

The project's primary trading pool opened on Uniswap v4 on Sept. 28. Unlike most meme tokens that trade against Ether or USDT, the pool pairs WOOF directly with SHIB, requiring market participants to hold SHIB to access the market. The contract code includes initial buy and hold caps alongside a launch-phase guard mechanism.

Market Metrics and Thin Liquidity Risks

Following the social media attention, WOOF reached a market capitalization of approximately $1.1 million. Data from Etherscan shows the token has gathered 882 holders.

However, liquidity remains low at about $180,000. The WOOF/SHIB pair generated roughly $1.5 million in 24-hour trading volume, with buy orders (2,653) outpacing sells (1,875). Such shallow liquidity can lead to intense volatility, a common risk seen across speculative token launches such as Robinhood Chain extraction schemes and memecoin rug factories.

Key Takeaways:

  • Shiba Inu's X account followed WOOF, driving its WOOF/SHIB trading pair up 971% in 24 hours.
  • WOOF has a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens and trades primarily on Uniswap v4 against SHIB.
  • The pair recorded $1.5 million in volume across 2,653 buys and 1,875 sells against $180,000 in pool liquidity.
  • Etherscan shows 882 holders and a market cap near $1.1 million.

Why It Matters

This move illustrates the tremendous influence official social channels of major cryptocurrencies hold over micro-cap token valuations. By pairing directly against SHIB, WOOF creates localized trading demand for Shiba Inu tokens at a time when usage on Shibarium, Shiba Inu's layer-2 network, experienced a slowdown earlier this year. However, because the Shiba Inu team has not provided an official endorsement or explanation for following the account, traders face heightened exposure if speculative volume fades in such a thin liquidity pool.
