Ripple concluded its Swell 2026 conference with major institutional announcements—including OCC approval for Ripple National Trust Bank and an annual product revenue run rate approaching $900 million—even as wider crypto market liquidations pushed XRP to a multi-month low of $1.19.
Wall Street Integrations and Regulatory Approvals
During the event, CEO Brad Garlinghouse addressed concerns that Ripple's expanding stablecoin business, RLUSD, was overshadowing its native asset. Garlinghouse reiterated that XRP remains the company's "North Star," though acknowledging fiat and stablecoin options are better suited for specific financial settlements.
Institutional support for RLUSD expanded significantly during the event. Coinbase enabled access across Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange, and its retail app across XRPL, Ethereum, and Base. Furthermore, Robinhood, led by CEO Vlad Tenev, agreed to use RLUSD across Bitstamp, institutional settlement channels, and its primary app, while integrating Ripple Treasury into internal operations.
Additional corporate milestones included:
- BNY extended custody support to both XRP and RLUSD.
- Moody's assigned RLUSD an A2 long-term and P-1 short-term rating, the agency's highest short-term grade for stablecoins.
- The OCC granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank to manage reserves and digital asset custody.
- Ripple Treasury unveiled AI-powered liquidity tools, including 24/7 Returns for corporate holders.
XRPL Protocol Upgrades and Infrastructure Changes
On-chain utility for the XRP Ledger also expanded through a partnership with C2FO to deploy its Instant Pay settlement platform using RLUSD. To accommodate regulated assets, XRPL developers introduced four code changes under the fixCleanup3_5_0 proposal. This upgrade restricts unauthorized addresses from holding permissioned tokens and closes exceptions across automated market makers (AMMs).
Infrastructure updates also reshaped the network validator pool, as Flare Networks joined the XRP Ledger validator list while Anodos Finance stepped down ahead of a planned validator shutdown.
Market Downturn Drags XRP Below Support
Despite positive corporate momentum, broader market instability impacted price action. After failing at $1.40 resistance on October 21, XRP retreated to $1.25 before recovering to $1.35 following the Federal Reserve's rate decision on Wednesday. However, a market-wide selloff triggered by a major security incident at Binance sent XRP crashing to $1.19. XRP remains down 4% over 24 hours and 6% on the week, bringing its market cap under $80 billion.
Why It Matters
Ripple's structural moves—specifically securing a federal trust bank charter and institutional ratings—create a strong competitive moat against non-compliant stablecoin issuers. While RLUSD provides reliable corporate cash flow and regulatory clarity, Ripple must continually demonstrate how stablecoin settlement bridges value back to XRP. In the short term, micro-level network upgrades and institutional adoption remain secondary to macro-level liquidations driving overall market sentiment.
