Ripple Reveals XRPL Upgrades for Institutional Privacy and AI Agents at Seoul Conference

Ripple has revealed a suite of major technical upgrades for the XRP Ledger (XRPL) at a conference in Seoul, detailing plans for zero-knowledge privacy features, transaction batching, and dedicated infrastructure for autonomous AI agents. The announcements come as the network targets deeper integration with institutional finance and automated payment networks.

Zero-Knowledge Privacy and Transaction Batching

To address financial institutions' reluctance to expose transaction details publicly, Ripple is introducing confidential transfers powered by zero-knowledge proofs. The feature allows institutional participants to execute private transaction workflows on-chain while maintaining verifiable compliance for regulators and network validators.

Additionally, Ripple is expanding XRPL's capability to execute complex financial operations using formal verification, adversarial testing, and transaction batching. Transaction batching enables developers to bundle multiple operations into a single all-or-nothing execution, improving efficiency for enterprise applications on the ledger. These infrastructural enhancements follow recent market activity where XRP consolidated above key support levels as developer interest expanded.

AI Agent Infrastructure Hits 11 Million Transactions

Beyond traditional institutional banking, Ripple revealed significant growth in automated machine-to-machine usage on the ledger. According to Ayo Akinyele, Ripple's Senior Director of Engineering, AI agents have already driven more than 11 million transactions on the XRPL.

To support this segment, Ripple is building native infrastructure tailored for autonomous agents, including verifiable identities, spending controls, permissions, and secure smart wallets capable of holding both XRP and stablecoins. The ledger's native settlement time of 3 to 5 seconds positions it as a fast payment layer for automated agents. The update builds on research from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), which recently published a working paper evaluating the XRPL to verify official statistics on-chain without exposing internal systems.

  • Confidential Transfers: Integrated zero-knowledge proofs enable private institutional workflows on-chain.
  • Transaction Batching: New bundling features allow all-or-nothing execution for complex financial operations.
  • AI Infrastructure: Senior Director of Engineering Ayo Akinyele reported over 11 million transactions generated by AI agents.
  • Settlement Speed: XRPL maintains a 3 to 5 second settlement time for automated machine-to-machine payments.

Why It Matters

Ripple’s pivot toward confidential transfers and AI agent infrastructure addresses two of the biggest structural bottlenecks in public blockchain adoption: privacy for enterprise compliance and automated settlement for machine commerce. By integrating zero-knowledge proofs directly into XRPL, Ripple removes the transparency barrier that has historically hindered institutional settlement. Furthermore, establishing dedicated permissions and smart wallets for autonomous AI agents positions XRPL to capture early volume in the emerging machine-to-machine financial economy.
