Ripple and Cardano Expand in Brazil With CSD BR and Petrobras Partnerships

Ripple and the Cardano Foundation have announced separate enterprise infrastructure partnerships in Brazil, expanding real-world blockchain deployment across Latin America's largest economy. The developments link the XRP Ledger with regulated capital markets and deploy Cardano inside state-controlled energy operations.

Ripple Partners With CSD BR for Tokenized Fund Shares

Brazilian financial market infrastructure operator CSD BR has begun testing the XRP Ledger (XRPL) as a parallel record-keeping system for investment funds. The pilot utilizes XRPL's Multi-Purpose Token standard alongside Ripple's custody infrastructure to mirror BTG Pactual fund shares onchain. Official registration and settlement remain handled by CSD BR's traditional systems.

Access to the parallel ledger is restricted to corporate and banking clients that satisfy strict identification standards. Silvio Pegado, Latin America director at Ripple, designated the pilot as a major industry milestone. CSD BR, which oversees more than $4 trillion in registered assets, intends to explore native asset issuance and fixed-income products following the pilot phase. The move reflects broader momentum toward tokenized financial assets in institutional markets.

Cardano Collaborates With Petrobras on Supply Chain Tracking

Separately, the Cardano Foundation unveiled two blockchain applications developed in collaboration with PUC-Rio and Petrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy company. The first initiative tracks sustainable aviation fuel through a Book-and-Claim model, enabling airlines, businesses, and passengers to claim verified credits regardless of physical fuel origin.

The second application traces Diesel R, Petrobras' brand of renewable diesel, across production, transport, and consumption to support complex Scope 3 emissions reporting. Rafael Fraga, Latin America lead at the Cardano Foundation, stated that the energy transition "will depend as much on trust as it does on new fuels." The initiatives target a sector where Brazil's oil and gas market is projected to reach $28.82 billion by 2031.

Despite the announcement, Cardano's native token (ADA) traded near $0.2549, showing a modest 0.9% gain over 24 hours while remaining down more than 91% from its 2021 all-time high.

Key Takeaways

  • CSD BR is testing XRPL to mirror BTG Pactual fund shares across its $4 trillion asset ecosystem.
  • Cardano Foundation partnered with Petrobras and PUC-Rio on sustainable aviation fuel and Diesel R emissions tracking.
  • Access to CSD BR's blockchain pilot is restricted to verified institutional and banking clients.
  • ADA rose 0.9% to $0.2549, staying 91% below its 2021 peak.

Why It Matters

These dual announcements demonstrate a shift in institutional blockchain adoption toward utility within regulated national infrastructure. Rather than replacing legacy platforms immediately, both Ripple and Cardano are embedding their technology alongside existing settlement and supply chain networks. If CSD BR transitions from parallel mirroring to primary asset issuance, it could establish a precedent for central depositories managing tokenized securities globally.
