Dormant cryptocurrency wallets holding millions in Quant (QNT) have reactivated after more than three years of inactivity, transferring tokens to major exchanges as QNT climbed 287% over the past week to $266.75.
- Dormant Wallets Mobilize: Two addresses idle for over three years moved funds, with 0x6d32 depositing 8,250 QNT ($1.88 million) into Binance and 0xd633 sending 9,000 QNT ($2.12 million) of its 34,200 QNT ($8.05 million) stash to Coinbase and Kraken.
- Record On-Chain Transactions: Analytics firm Santiment logged 645 transfers worth $100,000 or more in a single day, marking an all-time high for large-value network transactions.
- Delayed Network Spike: New address generation surged to 7,516 on September 27—about 55 times the daily average from September 1 to 15—following The Clearing House selecting Quant on September 24.
Dormant Whale Deposits Hit Major Exchanges
On-chain tracking by Lookonchain revealed that long-dormant whales capitalized on the token's explosive rally. The first address, 0x6d32, moved 8,250 QNT worth $1.88 million directly into Binance. The second wallet, 0xd633, relocated 34,200 QNT valued at $8.05 million, directing 9,000 QNT worth $2.12 million to Coinbase and Kraken.
The heavy transfers coincided with Santiment tracking a record 645 high-value transactions exceeding $100,000 on the Quant network. While the analytics platform noted that whale spikes indicate heightened interest, it cautioned that metrics alone cannot differentiate between accumulation and profit-taking. Retail engagement also expanded, placing QNT atop CoinGecko's most-viewed coins list on Tuesday alongside FIRO and TRUMP.
Network Metrics Surge Days After Banking Announcement
The fundamental catalyst behind the movement dates back to September 24, when The Clearing House—owned by 25 of the largest US financial institutions—selected Quant for its tokenized deposit initiative. However, network metrics peaked three days later. On September 24, new addresses stood at 351, before skyrocketing to 7,516 on September 27. Active addresses similarly climbed from 2,064 to 14,458 over the same timeframe.
Derivatives markets mirrored the spot enthusiasm, with dollar-denominated open interest rising nearly 9x over four days (2.2x when measured in QNT). The price touched $373 on Binance on Sunday, reaching its highest level since September 2021 and standing 13% below its all-time high of $427.42. This follows prior market action where Quant rallied as major assets pulled back.
Why It Matters
The sudden awakening of three-year-old whale wallets highlights a classic distribution risk during explosive parabolic rallies, as long-term holders seek liquidity near local tops. While The Clearing House partnership provides strong long-term credibility, the institution's tokenized deposit network is not scheduled to launch until the first half of 2027. Consequently, near-term price action remains heavily driven by speculative positioning rather than immediate protocol revenue, making consolidation likely before institutional adoption fully arrives.
