NEAR Protocol Drops Below $5 Despite $5.42M Bitwise ETF Inflow

NEAR Protocol fell over 7% on Tuesday to trade around $4.70, extending losses from the prior session despite sustained institutional demand through regulated investment products.

ETF Inflows Fail to Stop Technical Selloff

Data from SoSoValue shows that Bitwise's NEAR-focused ETF, trading under the ticker NRR, registered $5.42 million in net inflows on Monday. This capital addition follows three consecutive weeks of positive flows into the fund that totaled more than $80 million.

Despite institutional accumulation through NRR, the token's price remains constrained below a tight resistance cluster near $5.02. On the four-hour chart, NEAR is trading below its 50-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at $5.0179 and a descending trendline at $5.0261.

Clearing $5.0261 is necessary for buyers to target the September 28 high of $5.5780, followed by the psychological $6.00 level. On the downside, NEAR continues to hold above its 200-period EMA near $4.5513. A breach beneath this key support and the horizontal level at $4.4440—which held during an October 8 pullback—could expose the token to the September 19 high of $3.9140. Similar to other layer-1 assets facing critical technical levels, momentum indicators remain muted, with the daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovering around 50 and the MACD line crossing slightly below its signal line.

Q3 2026 Network Fundamentals Expand

The price decline contrasts with fundamental network expansion detailed in NEAR's Q3 2026 report released on Monday:

  • Cumulative transaction volume across NEAR Intents surpassed $32 billion, representing a 45% quarter-over-quarter increase.
  • Over $8 million in network fees were allocated toward protocol token buybacks.
  • Total value locked (TVL) in privacy-focused Confidential Intents surged 463% to reach approximately $160 million.
  • Institutional demand added $5.42 million into the Bitwise NRR ETF in a single day, following $80 million across the previous three weeks.

While network usage and automated buyback mechanisms reflect steady ecosystem adoption, short-term price action remains driven by technical market structure, similar to recent market moves where major altcoins dropped below key support zones.

Why It Matters

The divergence between strong institutional ETF inflows and falling spot prices illustrates the current dominance of technical trading over fundamental catalysts in the altcoin market. While Bitwise's NRR fund demonstrates that traditional investors are building long-term exposure, spot markets are prioritizing immediate technical hurdles like the $5.02 resistance zone. For traders, watching whether NEAR can defend the $4.5513 EMA will reveal whether this drop is a routine correction within an macro uptrend or the start of a deeper retracement.
