Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has announced plans to terminate all spot trading pairs for Epic Chain (EPIC) and QuickSwap (QUICK) on October 28, triggering immediate price drops across both altcoins. The decision follows the platform's latest periodic review evaluating trading volume, development activity, and project team commitment.
Immediate Market Reaction and Historic Delisting Patterns
Following the announcement, QUICK sank approximately 10% below its pre-notice price before trimming losses to trade 6.69% lower roughly 17 minutes later. Meanwhile, EPIC fell about 9% before rebounding to trade 5.61% above its pre-announcement benchmark. Both tokens had previously been placed under Binance's Monitoring Tag—QUICK on April 30 and EPIC on May 22—which signals elevated volatility and risk.
This market reaction mirrors past delisting notices on major platforms, similar to how market access shifts when regulatory authorities act against trading hubs, such as when South Korea blocked foreign crypto exchanges. In August, ICON (ICX) and Secret (SCRT) fell 12.5% and 18.8% to all-time lows following Binance delisting notices, while PIVX (PIVX) dropped 19.27% and Vulcan Forged (PYR) shed 18.31%. Conversely, Vanar (VANRY) previously gained 8.23% after early losses, mirroring EPIC's intraday recovery.
Phased Sunset Schedule for EPIC and QUICK
Binance is unwinding product support in multi-stage intervals leading up to the complete removal of spot trading pairs:
- October 15: Suspension of margin borrowing and removal from the Buy & Sell Crypto service.
- October 20: Termination of futures contracts, closure of outstanding loans, and removal from margin trading and Binance Pay.
- October 21: Removal from Spot Copy Trading with force-selling of open positions, alongside Simple Earn redemptions to Spot Accounts.
- October 28: Halting of spot trading, cancellation of open orders, and shutdown of Trading Bots, Binance Convert, and Gift Cards.
- October 29: Deposit processing permanently ceases.
- December 28: Withdrawal operations shut down completely, with potential automated conversion into stablecoins starting December 29.
Why It Matters
Binance remains the primary liquidity venue for many mid-cap tokens, meaning a delisting severely restricts secondary market volume and forces institutional and retail holders to exit positions. The multi-week sunset schedule provides structured off-ramps, but mandatory liquidations on futures and copy-trading products could amplify short-term selling pressure before spot trading halts on October 28. Investors must now assess whether EPIC and QUICK can maintain sufficient liquidity across decentralized platforms or alternative centralized exchanges before deposit and withdrawal services shut down permanently on December 28.
