Axis Robotics Token Dumps 40% Following 42 Million AXIS Sell-Off

The newly listed Axis Robotics (AXIS) token plummeted approximately 40% in a single day after a wallet cluster liquidated 42 million AXIS tokens for 5.04 million USDC across decentralized exchanges.

Unexplained Token Transfers Trigger Sell-Off

On-chain investigator ZachXBT alerted the community via Telegram that entity addresses had received over 76 million AXIS tokens—valued at more than $12 million—directly from the Axis team multisig wallet. The investigator revealed that six recipient addresses transferred tokens to decentralized exchanges (DEXs) to swap for USDC, while a portion was routed to exchange Bitget.

The 42 million AXIS tokens liquidated over a 24-hour period accounted for roughly 25% of all tradable tokens available at launch on October 21. Currently, $5 million from the sales resides across eight distinct wallet addresses. A similar rush to exchanges previously preceded a 40% slide in DoubleZero's 2Z token in 2025, mirroring recent price pressure across altcoin markets.

Axis Blames OTC Partner for Agreement Breach

In response to the accusations, the Axis team denied selling any internal team or investor allocation. The project stated that it had transferred community-fund tokens to an unnamed over-the-counter (OTC) trading firm under a signed lock-up agreement. According to Axis, the OTC firm breached the contract by distributing tokens across hundreds of newly created addresses to sell on the open market within hours.

Axis confirmed it has terminated its partnership with the OTC firm and initiated legal proceedings. Out of the 80 million community fund tokens released at launch, ZachXBT traced 76 million, while 835 million tokens remain locked in a joint contract managed alongside Binance. An additional 431 million fund tokens are slated to unlock on an automated monthly schedule starting next month.

Key Takeaways

  • AXIS crashed 40% in 24 hours following a 42 million token sell-off yielding 5.04 million USDC.
  • On-chain data from ZachXBT traced 76 million AXIS ($12M+) originating from the team's multisig wallet across six addresses.
  • Axis claims an unnamed OTC partner violated a written lock-up agreement and triggered the liquidation.
  • 835 million AXIS remain locked in a joint contract with Binance, with 431 million community tokens scheduled to unlock monthly starting next month.

Why It Matters

This rapid liquidation highlights the persistent vulnerability early-stage tokens face when delegating market-making or OTC services to external entities. Even with formal lock-up agreements, off-chain contractual breaches can lead to severe on-chain market disruption before project teams can intervene. Moving forward, traders will likely closely scrutinize upcoming monthly token unlocks and wallet transparency across early-access trading venues like Binance Alpha, Coinbase, and Upbit.
